Looking back

Following the success of Monteverdi's Laboratory, our 2026 project gave Oxford students another chance to explore extraordinary music with Christopher Bucknall and Miriam Allan, this time from Restoration England.

The programme featured music by Henry Purcell, Matthew Locke and John Blow, including works that had not been heard since the seventeenth century. A student prepared a new performing edition, and the singers visited Christ Church Library to see original manuscript scores. After a workshop and masterclass in January, the students joined some of the finest consort singers in the country and IT&T's instrumentalists for Awake my Lyre! at Christ Church Cathedral on Friday 6 February 2026.
